California Employment Law Update – August 2016
San Diego Ordinance Implementing Earned Sick Leave and Minimum Wage Ordinance
On August 3, 2016, San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer approved an ordinance (No. 20706) implementing San Diego’s Earned Sick Leave and Minimum Wage Ordinance. Among other things, the ordinance:
- Permits employers to cap an employee’s total accrual of sick leave at 80 hours.
- Permits employers to front load no less than 40 hours of sick leave to an employee at the beginning of each benefit year.
The implementing ordinance goes into effect on September 2, 2016.
