Mandated Insurance Coverage

On May 25, 2018, Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy signed legislation (H.B. 5210) mandating insurance coverage of essential health benefits and expanding mandated health benefits for women, children, and adolescents.

The law is effective January 1, 2019.

Pay Equity and Salary History Inquiries

On May 22, 2018, Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy signed legislation (H.B. 5386) prohibiting public and private employers from inquiring, or directing a third party to inquire, about an applicant’s wage and salary history unless the applicant has voluntarily disclosed it.

This prohibited salary history inquiry does not apply to:

  • Any actions taken by an employer, employment agency, or employee pursuant to any federal or state law that specifically authorizes the disclosure or verification of salary history for employment; or
  • Inquiries into other elements of an applicant’s compensation structure, as long the employer is not asking about the value of those elements.

The law is effective January 1, 2019.
