Ride Sharing Regulation
On May 9, 2017, Florida Governor Rick Scott signed legislation (H.B. 221) strictly regulating transportation network companies in Florida such as Uber and Lyft. The law covers registering vehicles by the drivers, fare requirements, disclosure requirements in the event of accidents, automobile insurance coverage requirements, drivers’ requirements, background checks on drivers, a nondiscrimination policy, contracting with a governmental entity to provide paratransit services, and removing a driver from access to the digital network in certain instances.
The law is effective July 1, 2017.
