Mandated Health Benefits – Prior Authorization for Substance Use Treatment

On June 16, 2016, New Hampshire Governor Maggie Hassan signed legislation (S.B. 532) clarifying prior authorization requirements under the managed care law for substance use disorder services. Substance use disorder services means health care services that are provided to a covered person as treatment for an addictive substance-related condition, not including treatment for any condition related to tobacco use.

The law goes into effect on January 1, 2017.
