New York City – Salary History Inquiries During Employment Process
On April 5, 2017, the New York City Council approved legislation (Introduction 1253-A) that would prohibit employers from inquiring about a prospective employee’s salary history during all stages of the employment process. If an employer is already aware of a prospective employee’s salary history, the bill would prohibit reliance on that information in the determination of salary.
The bill was sent to the New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio for his signature and has not yet been enacted.
