Ohio Cities Prohibited from Establishing Their Own Minimum Wages

On December 19, 2016, Ohio Governor John R. Kasich signed legislation (S.B. 331) that, among over things, prevents political subdivisions from establishing minimum wage rates different from the rate required by state law. The bill also generally grants private employers exclusive authority to establish policies concerning hours and location of work, scheduling, and fringe benefits, unless an exception applies.

The law goes into effect on the 91st day after it is filed with the Secretary of State.
