Colorado Employment Law Update – June 2016
Mandated Health Benefits – Protein Allergic Conditions
On June 10, 2016, Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper signed legislation (H.B. 1387) concerning health insurance coverage for severe protein allergic conditions.
Current Colorado law requires that health insurance plans provide coverage for medical foods for newborn children with inherited enzymatic disorders caused by single gene defects involved in the metabolism of amino, organic, and fatty acids. This bill adds coverage for severe protein allergic conditions and amino acid-based elemental formulas.
The bill goes into effect on January 1, 2018.
