From the Hotline: Connecticut Paid Sick Leave Law and PTO

Question: Under Connecticut’s paid sick leave law, can the sick leave be rolled into a paid time off (PTO) leave benefit as long as it meets or exceeds the sick leave law?

Answer: The Connecticut paid sick leave law provides that an employer is in compliance with the law if the employer offers any other paid leave, or combination of other paid leave that:

  1. May be used for the reasons defined in the law, and
  2. Is accrued in total at a rate equal to or greater than the rate of 1 hour per every 40 hours worked, for a total of 40 hours per year.

Note that other paid leave may include, but not be limited to, paid vacation, personal days, or paid time off. For additional information, see
