Massachusetts Employment Law Update – August 2017
Pregnant Workers Fairness Act
On July 27, 2017, Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker signed legislation (H.B. 3680) to extend protections to pregnant workers in the Commonwealth. The legislation will prohibit workplace and hiring discrimination related to pregnancy and nursing, and requires employers to provide reasonable accommodations for expectant and new mothers in the workplace. These accommodations include access to less strenuous workloads, altered work schedules, time off with or without pay, and private nursing space.
The law is effective April 1, 2018.
